Thoughts on Leveling From 1-60 "Vanilla" Style
As you may have read in my previous post (Can You Make Gold At Low Levels? My Results From Level 1-49) I've been leveling a Warrior from level 1 to 60 in as close a "Vanilla" style as possible. Today I finally finished leveling her to 60 and I wanted to share a few additional thoughts on the process.

On Motivation: The Ups, Downs, and Mysterious Whys
A very interesting thing happened to me this morning. I find this particular thing interesting because of what happened yesterday.
This morning as I was going about my normal morning routine and getting ready for work I realized that I no longer wanted to play World of Warcraft as much as I have been playing in the last month.
The notion hit me like a ton of bricks while I was starting to walk down the stairs to go to work.
(It is interesting how your mind will work on things over night and often have some new insight or new thoughts on a subject you may not have even known you were mulling over.)
This idea that I didn't want to play WoW as much anymore was present yesterday as well and, while I was vaguely aware of it yesterday, it came into full fruition this morning.

Dipping a Toe Back In
I found myself with a few spare hours tonight and decided to spend 23K gold to reactivate my account for 30 days.
It wasn't an easy choice. I literally shut the game down twice before finally pulling the trigger. I'm going to put on a tech podcast, enjoy a few hours in the game (yes I still do actually day dream about playing WoW sometimes and I don't daydream ever) and try not to get sucked back in.
All I want is a few mindless hours visiting the world I love getting lost in.
(Sadly I've already wasted 1.5 hours just updating all the things my computer needed to update: Anti-Virus, Battle.net client and Steam. I'm sure iTunes and Flash will be bothering me soon.)
One other thing that only playing a few hours means is that I can dispense with things that take more than two hours including auctions, garrisons, etc. Perhaps a bit of laid back leveling on my Druid.

Looking Back - My 250K Gold-Making Milestone
Back in July of 2011 I hit my 250K gold milestone. At the time the place everyone wanted their milestones posted was Warcraft Econ. Warcraft Econ was a blog about gold-making that also allowed people to submit gold-making milestone posts. (These days everyone is welcome to submit their milestone posts to the Community Gold-Making Milestones page.)
Since that time Warcraft Econ has shut down and my original 250K milestone post is no longer accessible. For the sake of posterity (and a bit of nostalgia) I've included the full-text of my original 250K gold milestone post. Read on for a blast from my gold-making past.

Ding! Power Word: Gold Turns One
The very first post I ever made on Power Word: Gold was posted on February 7, 2011, exactly one year ago today. (The image above shows what Power Word: Gold looked like when it first started. Very, um, literal.)
I just wanted to take brief moment to thank each and every one of you who have ever read one of our posts, left comments, sent us an email, listened to the podcast, watched our videos, interacted with us on twitter, Facebook or Google+, purchased our guide or in any other way supported us in our first year.
You are the reason for any and all success we've had and we are eternally grateful. Here's to another tremendous year!

The Problematic Possibilities of Leather Mogging Item Sales
Click Here For Full Size Image |
Like many of you I've been bitten by the mogging bug and have been making good use of Keelhauls Plate, Mail and Cloth mogging lists. Unfortunately that left us fumbling around to figure out what to do with Leather. Keelhaul has stated he doesn't even touch leather at all.
That left it up to us to figure Leather out for ourselves. I decided it was time I looked more into the possibilities of selling Leather mogging items. What follows after the jump is my initial research into what Leather items may sell and whether Keelhaul was correct in simply skipping them.

"flux" is dead. Long live flux.
Jim and April |
I've been pondering this for a while, but whether it's the new year (2012 is gonna be bananas!) or just that the time is right, I am officially retiring my beloved blogging pseudonym. As of this post I will no longer be going by the monikers "flux" and "fluxdada". From now on I'll be known as "Jim" or "Jim Younkin" if you're not into the whole "brevity" thing.
While I enjoyed having a pseudonym to write with at the beginning of my blogging career it is time for me to move out from behind the curtain and meet you all as my true self. Read on past the jump.

Recommended One-Handed Swords To Sell For Mogging
Today's guest post was written by Keelhaul who runs the blog Disenchanting Azeroth (Twitter: @DEazeroth). If you're interested in writing a guest post for Power Word: Gold please contact us at [email protected].
Many of these items can be found on the auction house now for very low prices. I have The Undermine Journal email alerts set up for many of these items and have been picking them up often between 50-100 gold. (The max I recommend you paying for these pre-4.3 is around 200 gold.)
Head past the jump for the recommended one-handed swords list.

The Shape of The Mogging Market And Staves
Today's guest post was written by Keelhaul from Disenchanting Azeroth. If you would like your guest post featured on Power Word: Gold contact us at [email protected].
First, a few market observations. After an initial wave of BoE sales, things have slowed down a bit. I half-expected this because transmogrification is likely going to move at the pace of a typical adoption curve.
The Transmogrification Adoption Curve |
This feature is going to be big enough that it warrants looking at the potential for change in the market in such a fashion. Learn more about the Transmogrification Curve after the jump.

Selling Classic Raid Runs To Moggers
Today's guest post was written by Keelhaul from the Disenchanting Azeroth blog. If you would like your guest post featured on Power Word: Gold contact us at [email protected].
Throwback gear in 4.3 actually breathes new life into throwback gold-making opportunities for experienced players. The ol' Hand of A'dal vials model for gold-making can be resurrected immediately, and GDKP runs have a new reason for pulling buyers into raids. Follow us after the jump and start thinking out of the box and applying a gold value to actual bosses, rather than to items.

BOE 2H Axes - Analysis Of What Might Sell
Today's guest post was written by Keelhaul who runs the blog Disenchanting Azeroth (Twitter: @DEazeroth). If you're interested in writing a guest post for Power Word: Gold please contact us at [email protected].
METHODOLOGY:
1) With personalization becoming so valuable in 4.3 with transmogrification, I'm predicting we'll see over time that a player's ability to stand out among their peers will likely become highly desirable. So what can we do from a BoE seller's standpoint? The answer is rather than wait to see what's unique, let's analyze it ahead of time and plan ahead.
2) Since this was an exercise for gold making, I've focused only on BoEs.
3 I've targeted Rare and Epic quality items, since I'm not sure about greens for transmogrification.
I pulled together the BoE 2H Axes for an analysis last night, this is what I came up with. First off, a summary for the TLDR audience:
Based on my analysis, the 2H Axe market could yield a couple of gems. I didn't push to 5, because there's that much of a gap between these 3 and the rest of their peers. Read on after the jump to find out my top 3 recommended BoE 2H Axes to target/craft for resale to moggers.

BOE Shields - An Analysis Of What Might Sell Post Patch 4.3
Today's guest post was written by Keelhaul (@DEazeroth). If you're interested in writing a guest post for Power Word: Gold please contact us at [email protected].
So I did a little perusing of the Shields category, and this is what I came up with. First off, a summary for the TLDR audience:
The market for BoE Shields for transmogrification is going to be slim. Find my recommended top 5 BoE Shields to target/craft for resale for transmogrification after the jump.

My 250K Gold Milestone Interview At WarcraftEcon
I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone know that my 250K gold Hall of Fame interview was posted over at WarcraftEcon today.
Here is a short excerpt.
Q: How did you learn to do it? Anyone or resource you would like to thank?
A: The Undermine Journal’s “frontpage” (before they shut down the first time) that listed a large number of gold-making blogs was the first place I found out there was even such a thing as a “gold blog”. I started off (like many people) by reading the blogroll at Just My Two Copper. From there I found Alto’s Goldish Advice, Cold’s Gold Factory and Nerf Faids. I’d have to say my early experiences were most influenced by those three blogs. When I decided to start blogging about gold-making I was thrown into a whole new world of gold-making ideas and (much like the Borg) have tried to “assimilate” as many gold-making tips as I can. Not every strategy is a fit for my own personal gold-making style but I’m fascinated by how others are making their gold.
I would like to thank all those in the gold-making community who share their time and effort writing gold-making blogs. I’d also like to thank all those who read my own blog and offer encouragement and share their own gold-making wisdom with me.
If you're interested in my thoughts on reaching 250K gold head over and read "Hall of Fame - 250K Gold Club: “fluxdada” aka Power Word: Gold" at WarcraftEcon.
I enjoyed doing the interview. It really helped me reflect back on the last 6 months of gold-making. Thanks again to all of our readers and fellow gold-making bloggers. You all are the reason I do what I do.
I'm on blogging break until late August however if you write a blog post (or have a WarcraftEcon interview published) about one of your own gold-making milestones please let me know (email [email protected]) and I'll work on getting it added to the Community Gold-Making Milestones here at Power Word: Gold.
