What Are The Material Costs of Work Orders?
If you're like me you are a bit obsessive and completionistic about making sure you are doing your work orders on all of your alts. But what are you spending in material cost to stay on the "hamster wheel" of garrison work orders and should you even be spending that money?
I've been playing around with the spreadsheets I have been building using TSM data (See Build a WoW Item Pricing Spreadsheet Using TradeSkillMaster .CSVs + Google Drive Sheets) and one of the sheets I have calculates the cost of materials necessary for doing work orders on various professions buildings.
Head past the jump for an idea of what it costs to pump out work orders day after day on your characters.

Build a WoW Item Pricing Spreadsheet Using TradeSkillMaster .CSVs + Google Drive Sheets
In this video I go over how to use the (Beta) TradeSkillMaster Web APIs (Stormspire post explaining the feature) to download a .csv of my realm auction house pricing data and build a Google Drive Sheets spreadsheet that allows me to access and manipulate that data to do things like:
- Quickly show prices for multiple items on the AH in one look.
- Quickly show prices for any list of item names or item IDs.
- Be able to do things like calculate material costs for items.
- See which crafted items are selling for the most and the cost per mat etc.
This video gives you all the basics to get your own spreadsheet started. Where you go from here is only limited by your imagination. I know I'm still thinking up ways to manipulate the data that these TradeSkillMaster .csvs offer us.
And, before anyone asks, I *do not* have a version of the spreadsheet you can download. This time I expect you to follow the video and build you own. This will (hopefully) teach you how to do it yourself and not just have you rely on using what someone else made. ("Give a man a fish…" and all that.)

Unraveling Why Gold-Making Has Changed In Warlords of Draenor
My initial intention with this video was to sit down and make a "quick 15 minute" video about why gold-making functions differently in Warlords of Draenor. I was planning to do this by mapping out how materials flowed in the game before and after Warlords.
What I ended up with is a 1.5 hour long video that accomplishes what I set out to do. I just didn't realize how complicated the relationships between gatherers, crafters and consumers.
YouTube: Unraveling Why Gold-Making Has Changed In Warlords of Draenor
I think of what I cover in this video as some initial exploration into the underpinnings of what has changed in the game for gold-making. This is only the beginning. There is lots more thinking and theorizing to go. The whole video is embedded above. Head past the jump for the final images I created in this video.

Warlords Pricing Trends for Ore, Herbs, Enchanting, Leather, and Cloth Since Launch
Tonight I am going to record the pricing trends for the various crafting materials introduced in Warlords of Draenor.
Since it's been about 2 weeks since launch the very beginning data will soon not be shown in The Undermine Journal charts. This is my chance to record it for posterity.
I'll be showing the charts and giving some light commentary after the break.

Garrisons, Casinos, and Lawn Mower Races
Yesterday I summed up my current feelings about my experiences with the following tweet:
"You know how you can turn off XP for 10g? Blizz needs to implement "Don't let me into my Garrison for 10 hours". Then I'd actually level."
The reason I came to that conclusion is that I feel like I've been spending what limited time I do have to play the game endlessly fiddling around with my garrisons rather than doing what I feel like I should be doing: leveling.

WoW Auction House Twice As Busy As Ebay
Blizzard released a wonderful World of Warcraft Infographic today that included a section on the Auction House.
A few highlights:
- The WoW AH does 2.8M daily trades (twice as many trades as eBay on Cyber Monday 2009).
- There are 71 auctioneers in Azeroth.
- 39K transactions per auctioneer per day (27 transactions per minute).

The 50 Most Expensive Transmog Items On My Server
I decided to have some fun with the exported data you can get from the Resources > Data Export page on WoWuction (example page).
In the chart above (and the data below) I used the .csv file and did some analysis to sort out the 50 most expensive transmog items based on 14-day Median Market Price.
I got the transmog items from our Giant Transmog List For TradeSkillMaster Import post. Read on past the jump for the list of items and prices.

Oct 21 Connected Realm Population Changes
Yesterday we did a post entitled New Connected Realms - Population And Auction House Analysis where we analyzed some the statistics and economies of a few of the realms that became Connected Realms today.
In today's follow-up post I wanted to do a bit more analysis on the realm population of not only the Connected Realms but also World of Warcraft realm populations in general.
While analyzing the connected realms I was intrigued by what Blizzard be thinking when deciding to connect realms. Read on for more.

New Connected Realms - Population and Auction House Analysis
Since first hearing about "Connected Realms" many of us gold-makers have wondered if and when our realms would become connected and how that would effect our economies.
Tomorrow (October, 21 2013) some of the first realms will become "Connected Realms". This means that for all intents and purposes all essential game systems, including the auction house, will be shared between the Connected Realms.
We spoke with Blizzard Technical Director Marco Koegler about connected realms in The Power Word: Gold Podcast Episode #071. Back then Marco let us know it would be a manual selection process. Head past the jump for more data and analysis.

My New 85-89 MoP Item Market - Initial Results And Design
Just a quick post to say that, at least initially, the 85-89 Mists of Pandaria item market I decided to take a gamble on right before Patch 5.3 seems to be paying off.
The reason I got into this market was because the XP required to level from 85-90 was reduced buy 33%. This means more people leveling and thus more people buying weapons and armor from the auction house.
Head past the jump for more information on my new 85-89 MoP Item market.

Markets I'm Abandoning
Every once and a while it is a good idea to take a step back from your gold-making and evaluate which markets are working and which might need to be put out to pasture.
After the jump I go over a few markets I've decided aren't worth my time anymore.
Patch 5.3 So Far (New Markets And Re-Posts)
What have I been doing since Patch 5.3 landed today? Posting a new market I'm experimenting with (85-89 Mists of Pandaria gear) and re-posting lots of Crafted Dreadful Gladiator gear of all types (Cloth, Leather, Mail and Plate).
I just get the impression that lots of people will be looking for PVP gear to try out the new PVP changes. I also think many people will have held of on leveling their alts until the 33% XP reduction for levels 85-90. Those people will be looking in the Auction House for leveling gear.
Some initial 85-89 sales. So far so good. |
What have you been up to in Patch 5.3 so far?

When Markets Attack! [Link]
WTBGold wrote:
"One person had no idea what they were doing and posted every craft at zero profit. No goals competative meta goals in mind, just trying to make any gold they could, erroneously thinking that endercutting by 400g meant things would sell faster (Hint: it doesn't; a 1c undercut is the same as a 400g). Her presence had 2 of my BS guildies and 2-3 other competitors posting under 100g for current items that should be worth over 400-500g. Then, it spread."
Read the full post THIS IS MADNESS! on WTBGold.
In a similar vein Thairus wrote:
"Anyway back to my escapades, seeing my main competition just logging in to repost and having just fully entered the market myself I decided to test his mentality / patience and immediately undercut him every time he posted (for 1c undercut each time). After posting I waited a minute or two and ran a cancel scan, seeing that he'd almost immediately cancelled and undercut me. Fun Time. I proceeded to have a undercutting war for the next 20 minutes until he snapped and posted a 2-5 deep wall at 120g across the board (most of the gems being priced at 130-280g each), I was feeling playful so I undercut him once more, at which point he whispered me a condescending insult along the lines of me not knowing what I was doing and logged out."
Read the rest of the shenanigans in the post Weekly Gold Report 17/05/2013: Busy Busy Busy on Thairus' Creative Accounting.
I myself have been having some fun (and good old catharsis) crashing the prices of the Crafted Dreadful Cloth markets lately. There is only so much undercutting you can take before you snap and decide to burn the whole place down.

Profit By Supplying Secrets of the First Empire
Today's guest post was written by reader Sueshi. You can find them on twitter at @brocampaign.
World of Warcraft is a multi-faceted game and people’s motivations for playing are as diverse as the players themselves. Whether it’s raiding, pet battling, PvP, or gold-making it is challenging to master every aspect of this game.
When attempting to forge a new market or discover a new gold making “secret”, it is important to have an understanding of “why”? Why do players want it and why is it needed? Read on past the jump for a very interesting market I was able find.
