First, a brief introduction:
I'm known in
these circles as the Mogfather. I predicted transmogrification would be
big for gold-makers, and since patch 4.3 was released I've made over
700,000 gold doing one thing and one thing alone: flipping gear and
weapons on auction houses. I buy low, I sell high and in some cases
extremely high. I follow a strategy that I honed on my own leveraging a
pair of invaluable resources (wowroleplaygear.com, wowhead.com) as well as visual tools I developed that are currently hosted on my former blog (deazeroth.com). If you'd like more insight into the background story and philosophy behind the strategy, check out flux's Power Word Gold Podcast Episode #24. Read on past the jump.
For more information and/or questions, follow me on Twitter (@DEazeroth) or email me directly at [email protected]
If you're
unfamiliar with my tiers and pricing strategy for transmog armor, check
out my previous post on Mail items for more description. The short
version of the story is high end range is chest/legs, low end range is
gloves/belt/feet. I've seen a number of the items in my top four tiers
below priced extremely high on over a dozen servers I've frequented, but
these are generally the prices with which I'm actually able to MOVE
these items. The majority of my proof point sales that are usually the
head-scratchers (Glorious breastplates for 10,000g, Exalted pieces for
5,000g a piece, etc.) have been documented and posted on Twitter
routinely since patch. Trust me, they're that desirable. If you're on a
low pop server, you may want to reduce your prices a bit, but try to
maintain the price tiers because that will help inform and direct your
customers. With that said, let's get on with it!
Tier 1: (5,000g - 10,000g)
Tier 2: (3,500g - 5,000g)
Tier 3: (1,500g - 3,000g)
Tier 4: (900g - 1,500g)
Tier 5: (750g - 1,000g)
Enchanted Thorium (I don't flip this set, but I have it on my Warrior with the Grim Sabatons and have NEVER seen the Enchanted Thorium set on the AH. It should be, and should pull this price.)
Tier 6: (500g - 900g)
---
If
you're on a low pop server or your server "just isn't buying", this is
your threshold. Stick the items above and you will do just fine. I've
tested this theory on numerous realms that have been "having problems",
and if you stick to the upper tiers the items sell like candy. Where
players haven't been able to make a sale, I've been able to make 5k in
just a few days by targeting the right items and creating tiers to
inform and direct buyers. However if your'e on a high pop realm, as is
the majority of my inventory (Proudmoore, Earthen Ring), and are looking
for some additional differentiation in your portfolio, I also stock and
sell these pieces with great regularity.
---
Tier 7: (350g - 750g)
Tier 8: (325g - 500g)
Tier 9: (200g - 350g)
Tier 10: (100g - 250g) and I generally don't chase these unless I can lead with the chest and/or legs.

UPDATE: For an Auctionator-ready importable shopping list of these items see the post Transmog Auctionator Lists over at Twitchie Enterprises.
Based on Twitchie's work above I went ahead and created Auctionator-importable lists that include Keel's pricing tier structures. Once imported select a list then click on the items in the list "Armor/Plate/Lofty" to see which of those items are on the AH. Here's the text to use for the import. (It can all be selected at once and imported and it will automatically create multiple lists.)
For an in-depth video on how to use the lists below as well as a combined list with all armor types see the PW:G post "Mogging Item Search And Pricing With Auctionator".
*** plate_T1_5-10k Armor/Plate/Glorious Armor/Plate/Lofty Armor/Plate/Vanguard *** plate_T2_3.5-5k Armor/Plate/Exalted Armor/Plate/Saltstone Armor/Plate/Tyrant *** plate_T3_1.5-3k Armor/Plate/Hyperion Armor/Plate/Jade Armor/Plate/Bloodscale *** plate_T4_900-1.5k Armor/Plate/Brutish Armor/Plate/Warleader Armor/Plate/Imbued Plate Armor/Plate/Commander *** plate_T5_750-1k Armor/Plate/Darkcrest Armor/Plate/Boulderfist Armor/Plate/Bloodfist Armor/Plate/Warlord's *** plate_T6_500-900 Armor/Plate/Alabaster Armor/Plate/Overlord Armor/Plate/Warmaul

Here's the low pop server threshold list as a Auctionator search list.
ReplyDeleteI've added the Armor/Plate/ prefix for those searches that showed other results (e.g., Alabaster pigment) on my server. Your milage may vary.
You can import the list by copying from *** to the end of the list, and pasting after using the import fuction in Auctionator.

ReplyDelete@Twitchie You. Are. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteTwitchie saved me so much time, that was hot.
ReplyDeleteIMO Enchanted Thorium should be higher. The mats to craft it are kind of a pain in the ass and often run pretty high. Then there's the pattern which not many people had before but now it's flat out not obtainable.
ReplyDeleteI scrounged up the mats myself and looked for a few hours for someone to make them. I imagine people would pay several thousand to avoid all that.
The problem with asking more for the Enchanted Thorium set is it's an incomplete set. There are no gloves, belt, shoulders or helm that match. And the only boots that match aren't an obvious one (Grim Sabatons), so the majority of buyers aren't going to know. So in my opinion if you boost it to 3k or something like that, you're hoodwinking buyers into a lemon and that's not very fair play.
ReplyDeleteSo while I do agree you could probably charge more for it because nobody else in my markets is doing it and the chest/legs look amazing, in my opinion it's not sustainable due to the lack of the complete set and it's unfair to players to sell them a lemon for more than I have it listed for.

ReplyDeleteWhat about ornate mithril? I only rarely see it posted, was looking for a price range to go with, since I learned all the recipes back in the day doing the mithril order stuff. Also pretty sure those recipes aren't learnable anymore
