How To Turn Off Outlines In Warlords of Draenor


If you don't like the "outlines" that Blizzard added in World of Warcraft Patch 6.0.2 the setting to turn them off is a bit buried. Here's how to turn them off.

TL:DR - Options > Interface > Display > Outline Mode > Disabled (or Quest Objectives Only)

I'm sure I'll get used to the outlines at some point but if I decide I don't like them here is how to turn it off:

Go into Options then Interface.




Under the "Display" options on the left go to the "Outline Mode" and select "Disabled" to turn them off completely or "Quest Objectives Only" to stop outlines on everything you mouse over (my hunter's huge pet turtle gaining an purple outline every time I moused over it was quite annoying ).

    1. Mainly just a personal preference. I've kit really liked hover outlines in many games I've seen them in. (Also just because they're new and 'not the way it's been'.)

  2. I'd really love to be able to adjust the alpha of the outline. Mouse over outlines on my grid health bars really make finding a raider super easy, and let me see if they're standing in fire or what direction they are out of range so I can move closer. Currently, at max camera, and given the varying alphas I've seen from Outline Mode, I've not really benefited from this potential, but I'd really like too.

    Do you know of any addons or macro/scripts to boost alphas?

  3. Do you know of any alpha adjustments available to outline mode? I currently see feint outlines in 25 man raids when I mouseover grid health bars. I see the potential here to really boost healing by being able to determine the location of out-of-range players, see tanks in melee hovels, or what might be causing massive damage on particular dps by pinpointing where they're standing-- I mean, it really helps with any aoe scenario.

    Do you know of any addons or macros/scripts that can boost the alpha for this?
