If At First You Don't Succeed, Subreddit Again.



I'm up entirely too late on the day before we have to finish packing but I wanted to let people know that after what happened with my reddit shadowban and the transfer of moderation of /r/WoWGoldMaking to someone else I had resigned myself to laughing at cat pictures and taking a "step back".

Then I realized that that would be a terrible idea.

Instead I created a new subreddit for World of Warcraft gold-making discussion entitled /r/GoldMakingDiscussion.

If you were a fan of /r/WoWGoldMaking head over to /r/GoldMakingDiscussion and subscribe.

So what's different about /r/GoldMakingDiscussion? No links allowed. the subreddit is a text ("self") post only subreddit.

People are not allowed to link to anything as part of a submission. There is no way in hell that I'm going to let myself or anyone else who uses the subreddit get shadowbanned from reddit because they chose to post links to their own content.

If you want to post your own content on reddit I'm sure you can find other subreddits to do it on.

That said if you do decide to be part of the new subreddit please read the rules on the sidebar. The moderators and I are serious about them. (Also they are going to be fleshed out as time goes along.)

Anyway I need to sleep. Head over and subscribe and lets build a great place for people to discuss World of Warcraft gold-making (again).

  1. Don't we already have this subreddit on Reddit? It's called /r/woweconomy and even though I don't use it myself I see that many people use it already and I think it's worth contributing to that instead of starting yet another subreddit

    Anyhow good luck with the subreddit

    1. I think there is plenty of room or all sorts I subreddits. More choice is never a bad thing.

  2. @Mithrildar You have to remember too, that the whole thing is about controlling and funneling the content to this website. You're right it would make more since to sent visitors to the subreddit that's already created.

    The only reason one would create a new subreddit would if you could bring something new that doesn't exist already. I feel sorry for Jim that he was shadowbannded and lost his subreddit, but given the nature of Reddit, it's not the best place to try and run you're own deal. Plus the whole fact that I read, he ruined his dinner with his wife over this.. sort of makes me go what? Seriously it was that important?

    Either way, yes good luck with the new subreddit.

    1. The choice was giving up and not running a subreddit or dusting myself off and getting back in the saddle. I chose to not stay laying on the ground but to get up and try again but this time applying what I learned from before and building something even stronger. The great thing about the internet is that people can build whatever they want. Simply starting a subreddit is no guarantee that it will be a success. That only comes after hard work over a long time. As for "funneling" people anywhere the new subreddit specifically does not allow people using it to self-promote so that won't be an issue. That doesn't mean that I can't tell people about the subreddit on places like my blog. Just not vice versa.
