Power Word: Gold To Be Made Into A Video Game

We're happy to be able to finally announce something that we've been working very hard on in secret for quite a while now: Power Word: Gold is going to be turned into it's own stand-alone game!

While we can't give out all the details yet (due to non-disclosure agreements) we can give everyone a few details at this point. This is so exciting! Read on past the jump for the details.

What we can say at this point:

  • Power Word: Gold was contacted buy an independent game developer (we aren't allowed to say who yet, sorry) with the idea to create a virtual economy game.
  • The game will offer many activities such as gathering, using tradeskills to produce items, a virtual auction house with NPC as well as real player purchasers.
  • The game  may include a free-to-play business model with micro-transactions (although the business model isn't finalized at this time).
  • While similar in spirit to World of Warcraft's economy, the game will be an entirely new IP with completely original items, materials and interface.
  • I will be overseeing the design of the in-game economic systems. I hope to use all I've learned a a game designer and what I've learned about the WoW economy to make a compelling experience.
  • The game will be released for iOS (iPhone and iPad) as well as PC and Android (including the upcoming Ouya console!).
We have a feeling this project will be filling a significant portion of our spare time as we work on it. While we don't have a release date we will be working on it long enough to make sure it is a compelling experience for all those of us who enjoy playing with virtual economies.

Image being able to gather, craft and sell items where ever you are! Imagine working inside a virtual economy to make as much gold as you can! We can't wait for you all to be able to try it.

Keep your eyes out for future announcements. These will include signups for beta, sneak peeks at the game UI, icons, concept art and much more.

We will also be looking for input into ideas for names for items, recipes and much more. We can't wait to share more!
